A demand for quality, traceable, local produce led to the opening of the Farm Shop in 2004. All the lamb, beef and pork sold in the shop is from Old Farm animals and the butcher is in Long Compton keeping food miles to a minimum.
The cattle and sheep are grass fed and the beef is hung for 3 weeks. The pure bred Old Spot sows are now crossed with a Hamrock (Hampshire x Duroc) boar to produce "Glamrock" pork - tasty, succulent meat with just the right amount of fat to make great crackling! We now home cure and home smoke our own bacon and you can really taste the difference...
We have a small flock of free range laying hens and their eggs are proving very popular as you can't get them this fresh unless you have your own! We also stock other produce including cheese, butter, yoghurts, apple juice and ice-cream – all made on other local farms.
Most of the meat will always be available frozen, however we do have some fresh meat available every week. The plan is to have fresh lamb and pork every week, fresh beef 2 out of 4 weeks and fresh chicken once every 4 weeks. If there is a special cut you require then let us know and we can arrange this with our butcher. Fresh meat is only generally available on Thurs/Fri/Sat.
We are now stocking Free Range Chicken and Guinea Fowl from Great Farm near Lechlade.
More people are now considering Food Miles when buying their weekly shop and we are doing our best at Old Farm to help keep them down! We have a map showing where all our stock comes from, all is within 39 miles of Dorn with most items travelling less than 14 miles to get here.
