Meet Our Farm Animals
At our farm, the animals are at the heart of everything we do playing a massive part in the farm story keeping the traditional pastures grazed, attracting the swallows back every year (manure provides a never ending insect buffet!), providing farmyard manure* to help the soil and producing tasty, home-produced meat for the farm shop.
*Manure is a vital source of organic matter which naturally conditions the soil, enhances structure, improves water retention and drainage, and releases essential nutrients over time
- Cattle (x17): Hereford, grass-fed and free-range for most of the year, raised for beef production.
- Sheep (x330): Welsh Mules crossed with Beltex, Charolais, Berrichon
and Texel tups, grazing our traditional pastures and over wintered
crops.
- Pigs (x10): Glamrocks – our very own breed including Gloucestershire
Old Spot, Duroc, Tamworth and Hampshire genes making a hardy pig with
superior flavour. Kept outside in tents as long as the ground is dry
enough or in big straw yards for the winter months.
- Alpaca (x1): Lives with the sheep in the orchard to help keep the foxes away.
- Horses (x3): 3rd generation of home-bred Irish Draught X Thoroughbred horses.
- Dogs (x2): Nap, our working collie and Bronnie the Weimaraner.
