Open Farm Sunday is an annual event in the UK that offers the public a unique opportunity to visit working farms and learn about modern agriculture. Organised by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), this initiative encourages farmers to open their gates and showcase the daily operations of food production, sustainability practices, and environmental stewardship. Since its launch in 2006, Open Farm Sunday has grown into a nationwide celebration of farming, attracting thousands of visitors each year. It provides a platform for farmers to engage directly with consumers, helping to bridge the gap between rural communities and urban dwellers while promoting transparency in food production.
Visitors gain firsthand experience of how farms contribute to food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience. For families, it’s an educational and interactive day out, offering children the chance to connect with nature and appreciate the hard work involved in farming. Open Farm Sunday not only fosters public appreciation for British agriculture but also inspires future generations to consider careers in the farming sector.
We have been involved with Open Farm Sunday since it started and have only missed 2 years. You can find a farm near you here https://farmsunday.org/visit-a-farm, just type in your postcode or put "Old Farm” in the search box to book with us, we’d love to see you and it’s FREE!
